Free TV – any reason why it will not be successful?

In the UK, the Freeview platform has rejuvenated the takeup of Digital TV services so quickly that it rivals Sky without the expense of having to buy expensive sports or movie content. The important point being that in many households, 80% of viewing is of the big 5 channels (BBC1,BBC2,ITV1, C4 and C5).

It now seems that the same success is happening at the opposite end of the world, in New Zealand. Hmmm, will it generate enough long term content investment to support the development of innovative content and services?
